How do transgender people realize they are trans?

Some people can full understand and realize there gender identity at a very young age. As a transgender man Jordan Geddes says "I realized that I should be a boy when I was a child, but everyone told me that I'm wrong, so I started to doubt myself and hide my real feeling on gender identity. Everyone couldn't understand me including my parents, they just assumed I was a lesbian." When it comes to transgender issue, Jordan Geddes is not alone. In fact, most of people cannot understand transgender issue and gender identity of transgender people. Transgender people cannot accept by most of people around them.

A recent study from the TransYouth Project showed that transgender kids as young as 5 can fully understand their gender identity and clear about the meaning of identify as trans. What lead to people have know their gender identity at a very young age. A research from Boston University concluded that transgender people are assigned with the gender that don't match their gender identity at birth. In other words, they are not agree with their gender that was assigned at birth, so they want to change their gender. More and more scientific studies has came around to the evidence that there are more and more people realize their different gender identity when they are children, and it is possible for them to have a gender identity that is different from the one they were assigned with. It is not a mental disorder to have a different gender identity. Most of transgender people do not regard their gender identity as distressing or disabling, it means being ts dating partner is not a mental disorder. It has been proved by Psychiatric Association. In other words, the only difference between transgender people and the ordinary people is the different gender identity.

Another major problem for transgender people is to find affordable resources. Hormone therapy, medical procedures and surgery are more expensive them ordinary healthy treatment. A lot of transgender people cannot afford the medical procedures of transition. On the other hand, transition is a hard and expensive process. The whole treatment process need several yeas. Social support and acceptance are also very important for transgender people. They need to think about whether they can be accepted by their families and other people after transitioning. If they want to freely express their gender identity and avoid discrimination, support and acceptance form other people are necessary. There are also many other obstacles transgender people are faced with, such as discrimination, prejudice and assault. APA suggests that discrimination on transgender people may make it difficult for transgender community to come out in our life. Not only transgender people, but also other people from ts date community. Minunderstanding and discrimination make it is difficult for tham to live as ordinary people in real life. Transgender people's experience is different from each other, but life is hard for most of transgender people. They express their gender identity in different ways, while understanding and support are always needed.
